From Me to You!

I saw this on my cousin's blog and thought it would be fun. Also interesting to see who are the first 5!

The first 5 people to respond to this post will receive something made by me to you....my choice...made especially for you.

Of course there are some restrictions and limitations:

1 I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
2 What I create will be just for you.
3 It will be done sometime this year.
4 You have no clue what it will be... it may be a story; it may be poetry or an article on properly cleaning your face before a masque. I may draw or paint something; I may bake something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure.
5 I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you must re-post this on your blog and offer the same to the first 5 people who do the same on their blog (Only if you really want to. I will still make you something). The first 5 people to do so and leave a comment telling me they did will win a FAB-U-LOUS homemade gift by me!!

My little giant, I mean hobbit.

If you look up the meaning of hobbit I bet you will see a picture of Matthew. The health nurse came on Monday to weigh, measure and all the other stuff. So I was told that they want the average baby to gain an ounce or 20 grams (in a week). Matthew was weighed on Saturday before he was discharged, so from then to Monday he gained 7 oz

Another health nurse came today to check on us. He was weighed again, and he's now at a whopping 10 lbs 14.2 oz. So from his last weigh in to today he has gained 1 lb 1 oz. The nurse kept telling me there is nothing wrong with a baby gaining a lot of weight at this age. I just looked at my little giant, shook my head and smiled.

I knew that Matthew was a good eater, but I didn't realize how much he's gaining in such a short amount of time. Ben and I don't remember James and Emily gaining weight this fast. So far it is rare for him to spit up a lot. It's only if he empties both breasts.

So we'll see how much he weighs when he's two weeks old! Take a guess at how much you think he'll weigh at two weeks old. I'll let everyone know the next time he's weighed.

The extra mile

It was wonderful not having to bring diapers, wipes, vasoline and pads to the hospital. I didn't have to bring any of it with me to the hospital. I love how every newborn gets a handmade hat.

I love how every baby gets a handmade hat to keep.

When it's time for you to leave you take the diapers, vasoline and pads with you. Pretty much anything that is opened. If you don't take it with you then they have to throw it away. So I got to take a a new package of diapers, pads and vasoline.

While Matthew and I were in the hospital we were blessed by having GREAT nurses. All of my nurses were really nice, but there were some that really stood out.

When Deb came in one of the nights she had a student nurse (Hailey) with her. It was fascinating because I learned a lot. I also got to helped with teach Hailey a few things. Mainly about breastfeeding. On Valentines Day, Deb gave us a white toque with a red heart on it.

Matthew is wearing his new Valentine's hat from Deb. He's snuggled up in one of the blankets that Shirley gave us.

I had a nice talk with Shirley, she asked about Ben's job. I told her about Ben's jobloss because he wouldn't lie. She then told me that she was going to make a care package for me. She later came back with it and told me that there's 5 packages of diapers, wipes, shampoo/wash and blankets. When I looked in it I found 6 packages of Pampers Swaddlers (20 diapers each), wipes,  vasoline(5 tubes), Johnson's head-to-toe baby wash (2 bottles), 2 blankets and 13  samples of Lanolin.

Here's our handsome little giant on his other  new blanket.

During the wee hours of the night of Saturday/Sunday Shirley came and asked if she could borrow Matthew. I had no problems with it, and let her take him. When she came back she had a wonderful card with her.

How often does the nurse does something as sweet as this?

It was great. She's one of those people who go the extra mile to make someone's day.

Another nurse who took the time to talk to a bored mom. Erin and I had a nice chat. She was the one who also cleaned my incision after it started bleeding again. She made sure that I had extra supplies to take with me.

To these and all of the other nurses at the Chinook Regional Hospital, Thank you very much.

On Wednesday, February 11, 2009 I went into the hospital for a magical weight loss surgery. It worked too! I traded a good amount of my fat for a handsome baby boy. Matthew Richard Dowdle was born at 10:28 AM in Lethbridge, Alberta. He weighed in at 10 lbs. 5 oz. He was 22 1/2 in. Because of his size he was difficult to get out, they had to use forceps to get my big boy out. Right after Matthew made his way into the world he immediately peed on my doctor. He did it all before he was even a minute old.

Matthew and I were supposed to come home on Valentines Day. I bent over to pick up a bottle of shampoo that I dropped, which caused my incision to bleed. It made Ben and the kids very nervous. Ben got my nurse right away. I'm not sure if I've seen him move that fast before. It turned out that I must have had a blood bubble just under the surface. It was a good thing that it did burst through my incision because if it didn't then it would have got infected. I had to stay over for another night. I really wanted to go home, but it was nice to make sure it healed.

Grandma Sabin came down to spend time with James and Emily. Everyone enjoyed having her here. I would have liked to have been able to spend more time. I appreciate everything she done for me and my family. Every night that Grandma was here, she would wake up to find a little body or two join her. Emily has been having a hard adjusting to not being a baby. She loves Matthew very much, but is some what reverting to "little girl". So I've made her a deal if she's a big girl then she can help me with Matthew. Like getting things for him or me. She liked the idea, she immediately got a diaper, cream, pad and wipes for Daddy to change his diaper. She was told only "big girls" can hold him, so tomorrow she needs to pee in the toilet and not down her legs. So hopefully this will work out.

Right now they are both surrounding baby Matthew and showing him toys. Also kissing the top of his heads. They were even singing to him for a little bit. They even said that Matthew smells good. Emily keeps "shhh" to Matthew then says that she made him quiet.

This is one of my favorite pictures. If you look closely then you can see a little smile on this handsome face.

Ben took every chance to hold his little giant. Like him I took every chance I could to take pictures.

This is Matthew's favorite position to sleep in. The first night I didn't get much sleep because I kept trying to get him to go to sleep in his bed. Towards the morning I just let him sleep on my chest. For the rest of our stay at the hospital this is the way we slept. He would sleep for 3 - 4 hours at a time. Sometimes longer.

James and Emily loved holding their baby brother.

We took a walk around the ward. James didn't understand why Mommy was walking sooo slow. Daddy helped him understand. They were going to walk another round around the ward because Mommy was hurting and was going back to rest. It was her first walk after the operation. James came back early to make sure Mommy was alright. Isn't that sweet?

The kids were told that they could hold Matthew after they got dressed for church. Emily ran upstairs ASAP and came back dressed. She almost pulled Matthew out of Grandma Sabin's hands.

Mommy to Mom to Mother

  • Real Mothers don't eat quiche; they don't have time to make it.
  • Real Mothers know that their kitchen utensils are probably in the sandbox.
  • Real Mothers often have sticky floors, filthy ovens and happy kids.
  • Real Mothers know that dried play dough doesn't come out of carpets.
  • Real Mothers don't want to know what the vacuum just sucked up.
  • Real Mothers sometimes ask 'Why me? and get their answer when a little voice says, 'Because I love you best.'
  • Real Mothers know that a child's growthis not measured by height or years or grade... It is marked by the progression of Mommy to Mom to Mother...

The Images of Mother

  • 4 YEARS OF AGE - My Mommy can do anything!
  • 8 YEARS OF AGE - My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
  • 12 YEARS OF AGE - My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.
  • 14 YEARS OF AGE - Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.
  • 16 YEARS OF AGE - Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.
  • 18 YEARS OF AGE - That old woman? She's way out of date!
  • 25 YEARS OF AGE - Well, she might know a little bit about it!
  • 35 YEARS OF AGE - Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.
  • 45 YEARS OF AGE - Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
  • 65 YEARS OF AGE - Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.

The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.

It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows, and the beauty of a woman with passing years only grows!

Please send this to 5 Mom's today.

If you don't, nothing bad will happen, but if you do, something good will: You will boost a Mother spirits.

Those cute kid sayings

You know how kids are always trying to stay up past their bedtimes. Right? Well, we try to get our kids to use the bathroom before they go to bed. Because our bathroom is on the top floor we have the kids tell us if they had to poop, and stay on the toilet until we come.

So last night James came down and told us that he had to go poop. After awhile I sent Ben upstairs to check on why we could hear James walking around. When Ben got back downstairs, he told me what was said upstairs. Ben said "I thought you had to go poop" and James' reply was "My body lied to me!".

I laughed at his reply. I would have never thought of "my body lied to me!" Only a kid would think of something like that.

You know you're pregnant if... something like this happens to you!

If you eat a whopper, drink, some fries, and some of your husbands chicken fries. Then wait about 10 minutes until everyone else is done in the bathroom. Then leave Burger King and smell... PIZZA! You think to yourself "yummy that smells and sounds good. I want some!"

This happened to me last night. After registering our van, getting groceries we went to Burger King for dinner. The kids were really good through out all of our errands and it was already past their bedtime, so we decided to have a special treat. We usually don't go out to any fast food joints. To make it even better there was a playplace. James attacked it with all his energy. When Emily was ready to play but too short to climb up the stairs by herself he came all the way down and helped her up. On the last step he even climbed back down the step and pushed/lifted her up. So her little bum was on his chest while he was helping her up. They were allowed to play until our food was ready. James came down right away when told, but Emily would not budge from the top of the slide. She was going to come back down the stairs, but I told her not to, just come down the slide. I got frustrated and had Ben talk with her. The next thing I know, James is telling me that Daddy is going up. I bet you can imagine a 6'7" daddy going up the playplace to fetch his little princess. Daddy and Emily came down the slide, he tried to come down slowly for him. The only problem was that I didn't have my camera. James and I had a hoot watching them come down. Emily kept telling us about daddy on the slide.

Could you say that Ben's wrapped around Emily's little finger?

Single Digits!

I'm finally in the single digits of this pregnancy. Of course I've been counting down the days. I'm more excited about the single digits than I was for the double digits. At times I find myself thinking...NEXT WEEK am I really going to have 3 kids? Is it really next week? I'm really tired of being pregnant.

I don't know if this will be my last baby or not. It depends on how my insides look when I get cut open. For those who are curious, if this isn't my last then there would be one and only one more. I don't know how I would be able to handle more than 4 kids.

Only 9 days left, unless he decides to come early!

I want a Boon Squirt!

When my cousin came up this past November with her little kids. She had one of these wonderful spoons. At first I thought it was odd and new, but I fed her son while she was gone and it was fun and very easy. She loves hers. She says it's great for church, errands or traveling. Since then I've been wanting to get one for this baby. I know I still have some time to get it. He's not even here yet. But I want to get it before I forget or have a hard time getting it.
For those who are interested in the Boon Squirt it's at Toys'r'us.

The Squirt baby food dispensing spoon allows for convenient feeding, one bite at a time. The easy-to-fill bulb holds up to 3 ounces of baby food and attaches firmly to the spoon end. Simply squeeze the bulb to dispense just the right amount of food. Squirt comes with a protective cover to seal food in and keep the spoon clean between feedings. By combining the spoon and food container into one product, Squirt makes one-handed feeding a snap.

Non-Toxic BPA Free

Great for travel

Detachable bulb with large opening for easy cleaning

Don't you think this would be a great baby shower present? I think so.

Why is it always Mom's stuff?

I've been wondering this for a long time. Why do kids always get into the Mom's stuff? It doesn't matter what it is. It's ALWAYS my stuff.

Most of the time it's my scrapbooking stuff that they ruin and I have to throw away. Items that should last a long time, like a foam brayer. Why do they have to bite, tear it and make it only good to be thrown in the trash. I can't even order that foam brayer any more. It's discontinued.

There's a lot of other things which they have ruined of mine. Is there a written law out there which only kids can see that says "thou shalt destroy Mom's stuff". It doesn't matter if I have my stuff put away in the proper place or not.

This morning I came downstairs and found that they got into my purse and ate 1/2 a package of gum. The gum only had 3 pieces missing. My purse was in it's usual spot. They've known about the gum in my purse for about 2-3 weeks.

I just want to scream and run away at this moment. I'm so tired of them getting into my stuff and destroying it. I'm so close to crying. Thanks to frustration and pregnancy.

Does anyone know of that law? Where is written in stone? I want to destroy it myself. Maybe I'll feel better then.
